FAA Requirements for Private Pilot License
To obtain a Private Pilot License (PPL), you must meet the following FAA requirements:
- Be at least 17 years old.
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Hold at least a third-class medical certificate issued by an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner.
- Complete the required flight training and obtain a minimum of 40 flight hours, which must include:
- 20 hours of flight training with an instructor.
- 10 hours of solo flight time.
- Pass a written knowledge test.
- Pass a practical test (checkride) with an FAA examiner.
