FAA Requirements for Commercial Pilot License

To obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), you must meet the following FAA requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Hold at least a second-class medical certificate issued by an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner.
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Have at least 250 hours of flight time, which includes:
    • 100 hours of pilot-in-command time.
    • 50 hours of cross-country flight time.
    • 20 hours of flight training with an instructor.
    • 10 hours of solo flight time.
  • Pass a written knowledge test.
  • Pass a practical test (checkride) with an FAA examiner.
